People have been wondering about DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ever since it was released. Since The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time takes set in the exciting and engaging world of Hyrule, this makes perfect sense. This has led many players to compile personal DLC wishlists in the hopes that future content updates for The Last of Us will address concerns such as these.
Many people were excited for TOTK after the release of Breath of the Wild, and the game did receive two substantial expansion packs that significantly expanded the game’s already massive amount of material. New clothing may be found and worn all across the game, and the Master Trials adds a challenging difficulty setting for the main plot as well as additional, challenging trials with incredible payoffs at the end. New levels, shrines, clothing, and equestrian equipment were all introduced in The Champions’ Ballad. But will we see similar augmentations made to TOTK?
Zelda: OTTK will not receive any downloadable content.
Twitter user @Genki_JPN transcribed an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu in which TOTK producer Eiji Aonuma stated that no TOTK DLC is in the works. According to Aonuma, “We don’t have any plans to add new content at this time. This is because we believe we have exhausted our ability to make that universe enjoyable to children. It appears that he is satisfied with the current state of TOTK and considers it to be a complete game that requires no further additions.
Possible Explanations for the Lack of Future DLC for Zelda: Ocarina of Time
There are a variety of reasons why The One Ring might not get DLC. According to Aonuma, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is complete in and of itself. It was enjoyable to try out new methods to play in Hyrule, therefore that’s why we produced a sequel to the last game,” he adds. If these things occur, we may find ourselves in the same world once again. It’s therefore feasible that the writers have nothing they feel should be made available as downloadable content. Given that The Last of Us Part II is already a massive game that strains the Switch to its limitations, there are additional technical considerations to make.
But it’s also possible that Nintendo is secretly developing something quite different. There’s no telling if the next Zelda game will be a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time or an entirely different game with no connection to TOTK at all. In any case, Aonuma promises that “whether it is a sequel or a new work, I think it will be a completely new way to play, so I hope you will look forward to it.”
It’s disappointing that there will be no downloadable content for The Old Republic, but it’s comforting to know that other projects are in the works to make up for it. Even if it wasn’t, seeing TOTK would still be a massive, near-perfect adventure. It is complete and does not require any further content. The game has a satisfying conclusion that players may spend over 200 hours achieving. Stop whining about the lack of downloadable content for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and go out and stock up on Shrines, Korok Seeds, and Lightroots while you still can. Have fun with it for what it is.
